Tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose the rightrental:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. The Bluffs South
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If not, call the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what is best for your trip.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your contract.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
