Strategies to get the very best Nags Head rental experience:

When to reserve a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Make a plan and pick a perfectrental:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Nags Head
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
