Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing the perfect vacation home in the Nags Head area:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. K1201 This is it. MP 16, ELEVATOR, Ocean Views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
