Finding the best Nags Head rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting and booking your Nags Head vacation home:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 3 bedroom beach box with a hot tub and short walk to the beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, email or call the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is best for your group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
