Getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Booking your Nags Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Selecting and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Whalebone Oceanside 3 Bedroom Cottage A has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
