Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to visit Nags Head & When to reserve a Nags Head rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the perfect Nags Head rental home:

  • Start by selecting the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Lauren Lee: Private Pool, Hot Tub, Golf Discounts has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
