Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Nags Head rental & When to go:
- To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group choose a vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Herring Hideaway 1 Queen Standard Fin N Feather has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Call the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
