Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Nags Head. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your group select the best dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Eleanor Dare 8 Bedroom Oceanfront Home, Cabana Service, Private Pool & Pet Friendly has 8 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
