Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Nags Head attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your family select dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Danube Breezes: Private pool and hot tub, soundside, five bedrooms. has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what bed configuration is right for your family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head beach you long to visit, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More considerations:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
