Our top Rental property booking tips:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your Nags Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the best rental in Nags Head:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. A Speckled Trout: Soundfront, Hot Tub, Game Room, Private Dock has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
