Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and choose yourrental home:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Pet-friendly semi-oceanfront home w\/ pool, hot tub, and ocean views! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head destination you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
