Strategies to get the best Nags Head rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your Nags Head vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain coupons for local shops and restaurants.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Pet-friendly semi-oceanfront home w\/ pool, hot tub, and ocean views! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If there's a specific Nags Head destination you are enamored with, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
