Tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Nags Head. Booking your Nags Head vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Nags Head area:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Pet-friendly semi-oceanfront home w\/ pool, hot tub, and ocean views! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Nags Head destination you simply love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
