Our top Nags Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Pet-friendly semi-oceanfront home w\/ pool, hot tub, and ocean views! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
