Tricks and tips for getting the best Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Close to Everything & Only 5 Minute Walk to the Beach has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, email the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head beach you simply love, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
