Vacation rental home tips:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to select the best vacation rental in Nags Head:

  • To start, have your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Across the street from beach! Outer Banks Pier Close has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
