Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer months are high season in Nags Head. To get the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Nags Head restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Sea Rest: Oceanfront, private walkway to beach, hot tub, YMCA access. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
