Tips to get the best vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To get the best value, shift your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Unbeatable oceanfront views! Beautifully decorated and well maintained! has 4 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.

Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
