Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Getting the best value:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. Booking your Nags Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect rental home in Nags Head:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Salty Pearl: Oceanside, Hot Tub, Pool Access has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If not, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
