Rental home tips:

Finding the best value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Pelican's Post: Semi-Oceanfront, Private Pool, Hot Tub and Game Room has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, email the host before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head destination you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
