How to find the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Nags Head area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your search:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. SN0112, Oceanfront! Cozy, Views Galore! Crow's Nest has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your family.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
