Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Nags Head vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting and booking the perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • First, have your family choose date ranges and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Sea Pointe 4B: Oceanfront, Shared Pool, Tennis has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head beach you long to visit, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Make a record of any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
