Strategies to get the best rental experience:

Get the best rental home value:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Private Pool, Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head attraction you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
