Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Nags Head rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Nags Head. To get the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Nags Head restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to choose the best vacation home in the Nags Head area:

  • Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Summer Special\/RIGHT ACROSS from OCEAN\/Fenced yard\/pet friendly has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
