Nags Head rental home tips and tricks:

Get the best rental value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the perfect rental home in Nags Head:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to the best dates and a budget.
  • Semi-Oceanfront
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head beach you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More tips for your visit:

  • Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
