Our top Nags Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Nags Head area. To book the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Tips to have a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
