Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Nags Head rental home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Nags Head rental home:
- Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- In the Nags Head area, The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
