Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer time is high season in Nags Head. Book your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Nags Head vacation home:

  • To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Barefootin'- Oceanfront, private pool, hot tub, pool table, private walkway to the beach! has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, email the property owner before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
