Strategies for getting the perfect Nags Head vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Our Happy Place: Oceanside, private and community pool, hot tub, dog friendly has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Know before you go:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
