Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Nags Head vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Nags Head rental home:
- Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking your Nags Head vacation home in the Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick a perfectvacation home:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. OBX Dog-friendly \/ Oceanfront\/ Poolside Cottage 17 has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If there's an individual Nags Head attraction you crave, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
