Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Nags Head rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. No Worries, Perfect Affordable Family getaway! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or applied to your invoice.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
