Tips for getting the perfect Nags Head rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • First, have your family agree to the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Marsh Links 15: Private hot tub, great neighborhood, Village Beach Club access. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Nags Head beach you love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
