Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Nags Head area. Reserve your Nags Head rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the best rental in Nags Head:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Fairway View: Dog-friendly, Golf Course View, Beach Club Access & Short Stays OK has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If not, call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
