Tips and Tricks for getting the best Nags Head vacation property experience:

When to visit Nags Head & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Nags Head. To get the best rental home within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 361 - Dog-Friendly Ocean-Facing Duplex - Gorgeous Beach Views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If not, contact the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
