Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Nags Head. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose and book the perfectrental:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. JULY 4 just opened up! Walk to Nags Head pier fireworks... has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your contract.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
