Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • To book the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing and booking the rightvacation home:

  • Choose your vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly home walkable to the beach with decks, patio, firepit, & pool table has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
