Strategies for getting the best rental home experience:

Getting the best value:

  • Summer is high season in the Nags Head area. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfect Nags Head rental:

  • To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Private Pool and Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
