Tips and Tricks for getting the best rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Nags Head area. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Nags Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. NH4912 Modern, Community Pool, Quick walk to beach! Hot tub! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
