Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:

When to reserve a Nags Head rental & When to go:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the best rental:

  • Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sun on My Beach: Private pool, hot tub, rec room, media room & elevator! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a particular Nags Head destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Call the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
