Tips for getting the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Cozy, quiet home in Nags Head.\nLocated close to beach and sound!\n\n has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
