How to find the best Nags Head rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer months are high season in Nags Head. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Nags Head area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Nags Head area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Kimberly's Kottage: Oceanside, Private Pool has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • If there's a specific Nags Head destination you crave, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
