Rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, try shifting your family's Nags Head trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in Nags Head:

  • To start, have your family agree to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Gorgeous pet-friendly oceanfront duplex in Nags Head w\/ a hot tub & rec room has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Nags Head rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. text the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
