Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or could be applied to your invoice.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
