How to book the best rental home experience:

Find your perfect rental home:

  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Nags Head. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing the perfect rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Beachy waterfront condo with private balcony, pool, beach access, fast WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Advice for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
