Outer Banks living at it's best! Our home - right on the water - offers fishing, sunsets, birdwatching, water activities, and crabbing from the dock. We take amenities very seriously, so you'll savor a top of the line, well-supplied gourmet kitchen, extravagant linens, showers with strong water pressure, beach equipment, fishing equipment, picnic supplies, and various decks from which you can relax and take in the pretty surroundings. You are our honored guest and you will feel like it.

Our home has been completely remodeled and is impressive to behold. The remodel supplied a new kitchen, new floor throughout, enhanced outdoor living spaces, new furnishings, new outdoor stairs and deck railing. Our philosophy is that if there's something we would need when staying there, our guests will need it too. So, you will find a kitchen completely supplied for cooking, baking, and grilling (with appliances, such as, a double oven convection range, a microwave, a crockpot, griddle, hand mixer, popcorn maker, rice maker, Keurig, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, etc.). Plus, access a variety of games, a sewing kit, a first aid kit, iron and ironing board, dressing mirrors in every bedroom and bathroom, bags racks, a chair in each bedroom, and many other amenities.

The home sits on the main canal off the Albemarle Sound with a dock for fishing or boat tie-up. If you are a fishing fan (like us!), check out the fish table/cleaning station! Boat dock has electricity, water, lighting, and a fish cleaning table. We provide fishing rods and a simple tackle box. The home also offers an enclosed outdoor shower, which is an experience unto itself and reason enough to stay at our splendid home! We also have an outdoor entertainment area underneath the home, impressive for Crab Feasts and other group activities. One of the main highlights is the view! Take in the scenery either from the decks and from many of the broad windows inside.

We lovingly call our home, Sounds Groovy OBX! For over 30 years, this was the home to the coolest, most loving grandparents ever! They were excellent complimentary spirits! Sounds Groovy is a tribute to them and an acknowledgement of all the beauty and kindness they shared while they were with us. They appreciated fishing, beaching, and appreciate and laughter. We are confident you'll experience that and much more when you visit Sounds Groovy!

Tricks and tips to get the perfect Nags Head rental home experience:

When to visit Nags Head & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Nags Head. To find the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area visitors guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental:

  • Start by having your family commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Luxury Waterfront Home with Gourmet Chef’s Kitchen & Relaxing Sunsets has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.

Don’t forget the gourmet market, or shop our beautiful linens for your bedroom and bath. We also feature coastal books and fine art, or just a whimsical fun gift to bring home to family and friends. Stop by soon and don’t forget to try our estate grown wines in our stores or visit our vineyard and winery, Sanctuary Vineyards, located adjacent to the original Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg.

Most know The Cotton Gin as a must-stop shop for fine gifts, beachwear, souvenirs and so much more, but this retailer has a long-standing history within the Outer Banks. A local landmark that holds almost a century of memories, The Cotton Gin started from humble beginnings and continues to adapt to the times and tourists. Tommy Wright’s family has been in the Outer Banks for nearly 200 years. His great-great grandfather, Jacob Francis Wright, shipwrecked in Duck back in the early 1800s. Calling these barrier islands his new home, Wright and his family acclimated to their new environment.

Adaptation is a common theme for the Wright family. Tommy and his wife Candace, who continue to steer The Cotton Gin, have seen not only their business change with the times, but the Outer Banks as a vacation destination as well. A farm market in Jarvisburg eventually transformed and flourished into several retail locations dotting the Outer Banks.

“As the area changed and tourism took off in the 1960s, the family saw people coming for vacations, so they began to grow vegetables and things developed from there,” says Tommy Wright. The Wright family expanded upon the farm market and began to remodel a working cotton gin, later transforming the gin into The Cotton Gin general store in the late 1960s. While the additions to the farm store drew visitors, it was their encounters with the Wright family that kept people coming back year after year, which is something that remains true today.
