Swimming, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, kite-boarding - you name it! Parents will be the envy of their friends because your kids will definitely appreciate the warm, calm, shallow, clear sound waters when the ocean is cold and rough or red-flagged as dangerous, or even when the ocean is fine. Tips to get the perfect Nags Head rental experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • Summer time is high season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Nags Head area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Nags Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Old Nags Head style with wrap around porch! Soundside Rd in Nags Head! has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Advice for a terrific stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
