Tips to get the perfect Nags Head rental home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer is high season in Nags Head. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.

How to choose the perfect rental in Nags Head:

  • Begin by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Carolina Cottage-Cozy family friendly cottage in the Outer Banks-no cleaning fee has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head beach you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
