Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Finding the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing the best rental in the Nags Head area:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Private Pool
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's an individual Nags Head destination you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
