How to book the best Nags Head vacation home experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Nags Head rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Nags Head area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Nags Head attractions and restaurants.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Nags Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning and picking the rightrental:
- To start, have your family choose trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Sundancer 8 Bedroom Oceanfront Home w\/ Pool, Hot Tub, Sauna has 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to inspire new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
