Strategies to get the very best Nags Head vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Nags Head. To find the best value, try changing your family's Nags Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose a perfectvacation home:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sunnyside Up: Oceanfront, Hot Tub, Pool Access has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
