Getting the best Nags Head vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • In the Nags Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer time is high season in Nags Head. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Sunny Side: Oceanfront, Pool w\/ Water Slide has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.

  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
