How to book the best Nags Head rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Summertime is high season in the Nags Head area. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Nags Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Nags Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Nags Head vacation home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Just Wright: Heated private pool and hot tub and an elevator! Very close to beac has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Nags Head destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
