Finding the best vacation rental experience:

When to book a Nags Head rental home & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Nags Head vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Nags Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Make a plan and pick the perfectrental home:

  • Start by selecting trip dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Sound-view retreat with balcony, W\/D, & central AC - pool and boat ramp access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
